Kun Voce vs Fiddlerman Carbon Fiber Violin Shoulder Rest Review | Violin Lounge TV #338

Review of two carbon fiber violin shoulder rests: the expensive Kun Voce vs the cheap Fiddlerman.

Find out which one sounds best and is most comfortable!

I LOVE the sound of the Kun Voce, but I was barely able to play it because it felt so uncomfortable

Of course this is highly personal and I’m sure there are people who LOVE how this rest feels.

As it’s quite an expensive rest, it looks high tech, but doesn’t really give me the high end look and feel I would expect.

Adjusting the rest in height and width works very well. For people with a long neck it’s good to know that you can make it quite high, but you can’t really make it very low.

Kun advertises that this shoulder rest is light weight, but with it’s 58 grams it’s just 1 gram lighter than the cheaper Fiddlerman carbon fiber rest and about the same weight as a wooden shoulder rest.

The Fiddlerman carbon fiber rest gives great value for money and it’s cool that you can choose between a traditional wood look and a carbon look

Considering the low price, this is a great rest with a good sound. The only downside is that you have limited possibilities adjusting the width of the rest (see video).

    Hello Zlata,

Thank you for saving me a LOT of money. Here are my own (humble? )opinions after twice viewing your very fair minded video.

Yes the Kun sounds brighter and the Fiddlerman more focussed.

I have a Kun Original and a Wolf Forte Secondo.

The Wolf is brighter and the Kun too focussed and rather duller.

The Wolf has the distinct advantage of being pliable (bendable) due to the thin metal plate in order to take advantage of the player’s own collar bone shape.

Perhaps a video with the Wolf Forte Secondo which is made in The Netherlands may be another comparison ?

Hi Stewart, yes, in Holland most violinists use a Wolf rest and I’ve made a review of that years ago right here. I’ve used it for almost twenty years, but switched to the Augustin Diamond rest some years ago, because I prefer the sound and the fact that you can adjust it to be very low.
