Here’s the thing: bowing technique is the nr 1 struggle of violinists worldwide on all levels.

We all want to sound good and express the emotions we want to in our playing. We don’t want to be ashamed of our beginner or amateur sound.

When you take lessons, bowing technique and tone creation are not getting the attention they deserve. In a lot of lessons and practice sessions the focus is on hitting the right notes in tune in the rhythm. Violin players make progress in the difficulty of the pieces they play, but their bowing technique and tone creation stay behind.

In the ten years that I’ve been teaching the violin, I’ve been specializing more and more in bowing technique and tone creation just because other teachers don’t. I’ve been reading a lot, doing research, trying stuff out in my own playing and in the lesson I teach and I’ve been taking lessons myself on top of my conservatory training. More and more students came to me just to improve their bowing.

Look… bowing technique and tone creation are not a matter of ‘talent’ or ‘just practicing more’. They are learnable skills, but you need someone to tell you HOW to do it EXACTLY (not just demonstrate) and also how to PRACTICE it, so YOU can do it to.
