Why I Bought a $ 8,000 Violin Bow
…and why you should get a good bow too, even if you’re a beginner!
With a good bow you get the optimal sound from your violin and you develop your bowing technique
I almost feel like cheating…
I travelled to Würzburg (Germany) and bought a round Arcus S9 violin bow
I was saving for this bow for a long time. In the meantime I had an octagonal Arcus S6 violin bow, with which I’ve enjoyed playing for years.
This new bow makes it possible for me to perform advanced bowing techniques with more ease, makes my violin sound better (a beautiful buttery tone) and it helps develop and deepen my playing.
You shouldn’t wait until you’ve reaching a level to ‘deserve’ a better bow, but you should invest in a good bow as early as possible to reach that higher level in your playing. A good bow can really help you in your progress, while a bad bow (and violin) can keep you stuck.
