⚠️ WARNING: Never use stickers or markers on your fingerboard!

Seeing my poster you might be wondering why I don’t produce it as a fingerboard sticker.

I never use fingerboard stickers for my students for a couple of reasons:

  • My experience is that stickers work short term, but on long term it causes a lot of difficulties in learning to play in tune
  • We humans are very visual creatures. When you can see something, you won’t use your ears
  • It gets in the way of your ear training, because your ear becomes lazy
  • I want you to develop yourself as a musician and play in tune by ear
  • Stickers are always a little inaccurate

If you want to check if you are playing in tune, I recommend using the D’Addario Micro Tuner. This is more accurate than stickers. You can easily put it on and off your instrument, so it won’t make you dependent and you will actually train your ears and play in tune. I even use it for tricky orchestra parts, you know, all the way up where there’s rosin.
